Leak thru the tailgate?

Post by Sugar Spun Sisters »

I have ingress of water into the back of my bus, driver's side, into the wardrobe (autosleeper 1984)
I'm having trouble seeing where it is coming in.
Rear side window seal looks ok, I've even re-sealed the poptop with sikaflex.
The pop top interior is dry as a bone.
There is a very slight camber on my drive to the right...
What is the likelihood it is the tailgate seal? Don't want to buy one if it's not the problem.
There doesn't appear to be any damage to the seal, no nicks, scuffs, holes.
Can it just flatten with age and so becomes ineffective?
Sick as a chip :(

As a quickie, clean off the seal and shut surface then apply a thin smear of vaseline to the rubber, close tailgate ,leave for 5 mins ,open and look to see transfer of vas' to paintwork, also does your tailgate look to be closing fully, is it sat flush with the rest of the body/aperature. remeber unless you have a secret ,water will generally only run down from above
would be best if you can post a picky up, and show where the signs of wet are, and how much/bad as it usually comes in trough holes in the roof under the pop fixings

Unable to post pics as pretty crap with computers. I have tried to seal the pop rivet area at the rear...I'm guessing it only takes a pin prick of a hole to get thru.
The vaseline trick is a good idea.
I'll try sealing up the hinges too.
The tailgate seems flush, but it may be out, wouldn't take much I'm guessing.
Water ingress in the little space between the back of the wardrobe (outer) and tailgate panel, in corner I think which is spreading north and staining the bottom of the inner panel of wardrobe...
but also (strangely) at one point right in the middle of the wardrobe side panel where it sits next to the rear side panel of the van...50 pence size. What is there? feels like a bit of a lump behind it???
Guess I really should remove wardrobe and have a look but I worry I won't be able to put it back...
Oh the joy of it all...and it's forecast for more rain tomorrow :x

Do you have a rear wash/wipe? That sounds like where the washer bottle fits... :?
