Speedo Red Marker @ 40kmh - What's it's Purpose?

Post by Mickyfin »

On my speedo face, there is a red marker at 40 km/h, and I find myself changing from 3rd Gear to 4th gear at this marker. Is this the purpose of this marker? I don't have a rev counter.

Just curious really.

Thanks :ok

Is that the only mark?

On mine there was 3. As far as I could work out they represented the safe rev limit for each gear. So as you say, the point at which you would change up a gear.

Your quite right, its not the only mark, but its the most obvious one. I would be interested in finding out what each mark represents.

Mine has just the one mark between 50-55kph. I always thought it related to speed limits?

Just checked mine again, and it is indeed the only marker, no other areas highlighted in red.

Its the point (if you stay in 1st) at which you might want to put your fingers in your ears :D

Certainly bugs had gear change markers - my T25 does too.

Cheers, thats what I was thinking, which to me is fine as luckily I have some experience with mechanics, and know rev limits etc, I just want to install a rev limiter to be happy as the engine is so quiet on tickover, Im forever thinking its stalled. Thats without looking at the dash oil light of course. :ok

I always thought it was about 30mph but it turns out to be about 36mph as i found out in Newnham Bridge and a speed awareness course later.
