Mysterious Solex Pict 34/4

Post by scarysteve »

Ok. First off, I'm not mechanically minded. I did some research I found that the Pict 34/4 was only fitted in the Californian Buggys. So, what is it doing in my T25? Can I change it for a Pict 34/3 or some other conversion kit?

Next question and this is about transferable parts. As I am having problems sourcing a new manifold sytem could I whip it all out and replace it with a T1+T2 1300cc-1600cc Single Port inlet manifold. I don't expect a perfect fit but would this work with a new carb as well.
Sorry i don't have a clue of what works but the online catalogues can be confusing.
Thanks guys.

type 4 engine short inlets fit with some porting to the manifold to match the head, for twin delorto carbs.

presuming you have a ct 1600 engine?

type4 manifolds are different , you need t1 /t2 or maybe type 3 , variant manifolds as they had similar cooling system

1600ct engines are basically beetle engines with some upgrades so the manifold/carb setup will need to be from that sortof line
having said that the ct manifold is different to the beetle and type 3 (not t3) so its a bit of trial and error.

basically you need twin carbs for a beetle , t1 , type 2 , bay ect but you may have issues with clearence

i am running a ct in my buggy and may look at swapping carbs but to something similar just a bay 34 pict or similar, but not looked into it enough to say what will fit yet

Thanks guys. It is a CT 1600 Aircooled petrol engine/refurb.
I've seen a second hand manifold but one of the flanges on the pre heater pipe is rusted out so will need a washer or welding. Might go for it and see. My emissions are through the roof and the screw has been adjusted to the max. If the replacement manifold doesn't help then I will have to look at replacing the carb. I've been told a weber conversion kit is night and day but where can I get one and which one? Thanks again. Steve :ok

webbers do work on these engines.. I've had webbers on mine from day 1... one thing I would say is take your time before getting some - there are millions of em out there of sale and most of them seem to be can as they have had a hard/long life and are now 30+ years old! I can't remember the dates that production stopped in one country and started in the other....but there are the genuine original Spanish/Italian ones and there are the recent cheaper Chinese repo' ones; the latter being somewhat less in quality.

If you go twin webber route then there is mountains of info on setting them up
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Hello,

If your preheater pipe flanges are rusted to a wafer, a solution can be to 'sacrifice a 2nd hand beetle inlet manifold, cut off the risers, and cut/graft onto the CT system. Tack the tubes once provisionally bolted in place.

Nothing wrong with the solex pict 34/4 carb.

Full overhaul kit on Serial Kombi for about 50€.

Set carb up properly on well tuned engine. ( I will soon be doing a video on this)

I get 28 mpg on a lightly modified CT 1600, with top speed of 115 kph.

Hope this helps,

Cordialement
