18. Breslau Rally: Cross Country or "muddy style" from Hungary to Bulgaria.

"Cross Country" is one of the magic words of the recently announced 18th Breslau rally, which in September will go through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. But there are also the typical "Breslau elements". "Breslau" - which has long stood for a very unique form of offroad event: Not quite Rally, not quite Trophy - just "Breslau".

"That's why we will continue to have the classic Breslau, under the name ´Breslau extreme´" said organiser Alexander Kovatchev. "Confusion with the Breslau Cross Country is excluded. This is not a watered down Breslau. No "hardcore" team with a taste for mud, water and winching, spiced with the art of navigation will have to give up "its" Rally. The Breslau Extreme option in Southeast Europe will also meet these classic expectations, but added with some all-new experiences."

The Cross-Country race runs parallel, but bypasses the very hard passages. Here the diffculties are different: Driving through long special stages at speed. Here, too, precise navigation is required, because just driving fat out will not work either. The "CC" ranking will appeal to teams with other vehicles that didn’t stand the chance of a good result in the classic ranking: typically "winch free" Rally Raid cars, as used for example in Baja racing.

Both race formats will be strictly monitored and evaluated separately. The two classes will partly take some dierent routes. This way, as at the Dakar, certain obstacles will be taken out for the CC class. For the CC class, there will be a supplement to the Regulations, which concerns mainly the "Safety" aspects in the form of mandatory equipment.

The 18th Breslau Rally meets the different expectations: those of the classical "rough" Breslau-driver and those of the "speed freaks" with their fast light vehicles - this combination is new and appealing. On the 1st May the new website of the rally Breslau will be launched. At the same time entries for the 18th Breslau Rally in September will be open.

The starting fees for this Licence free begin at 150 Euros for Bikes and Quads, 300 Euros for Cars and 500 Euros for a Truck. The rally will be 7 days long and will have about 1.600 kms of offroad racing in three countries (Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria). For more informations visit the official website at [ http://www.rallye-breslau.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ].

To be honest, i wish we were here a month earlier. It looks hot in the pics, but its 15-18º at best and too cold for any swimming snorkelling etc.

I reckon spring or autumn would be the time to come to Croatia.

We are hoping to go to Croatia around May time. Somewhere I have wanted to go for a couple of years. I want to go through Switzerland too. Final destination will probably be Lake Plitvice. Bought a snorkel and mask last year but England isn't that great so looking forward to putting it to some use.

Hopefully you will have the place to yourself at this time of year. We went to Plitvice National Park in August and it was a bit Disneyland for our taste. Quite a specatacle though and should be great without the crowds. Like Jed we had had enough of the heat by the coast and wanted to get into cooler air, though i have never found it unbearably hot in our visits.

Croatia is cold according to the Greeks; who chuckled when i started raving about it to them this year after a few too many Ouzo's, what was i thinking, apparently Greece is far better all year round

We drove cross country from Sibenik to Plitvice through what still had evidence of being the war zone it recently was. Eery in places. Always have in the back of your mind the possibility of minefields off the beaten track if your tempted down any of those very attractive lanes!

If you are heading home from Plitvice draw a straight line from there to Ogulin, a nice road that takes you NW toward the Slovenian border. We crossed into Slovenia at Pribankci/Vinica and headed back across to the Dolomites. Personally I would avoid the long haul across Germany like the plague. Quick yes, interesting not.

(Since V-Luxed mentioned it :D )

Back to the thread......

I have an outline plan to drive to Venice, pick up the Minoan lines ferry down to Patras; wander around Pelopenessia for a week or two and reverse the process; depends on whether teenage children can be pursuaded to join in!

The French are coming here next year (2012), for Syncropendence, CamperJam and Snowdonia, possibly more...

Well, that is what we hope, and that is how the communications are proceedings after this was mooted with them in Ireland earlier this year.

You should all have your invites to the Syncronauts' AGM next Thursday night, so you can chat and make your wishes known... though of course 80-90 Syncronauts can't organise every desirable trip, but with some new blood in the committee, the usual 3 annual events and a big summer camping jamboree with the French is on the cards.

So please don't all going running off elsewhere in July.... :)

NB. In the longer term, Yvonne (Barry's wife) had theidea of driving a route North to South in Spain, entirely on Ramblas (dry river beds). She had heard that this was (at least theoretically) possible and said she'd do some initial research on the idea. Sounded great to us, but we were all a bit high from the Picos driving, as well as the cocktails on the return ferry :|
