Due to me being a gentleman ("No love, you cant have the van for the weekend, Im going surfing, you'll have to use the tent") my other half is taking the 'outdoor stove' camping this weekend.
The van had two gas cylinders in when we bought it - propane and butane. We routinely use the butane on the van's cooker (propane is for when its cold? Is that right?). There's no reason we shouldnt use the propane cylinder for a gas cooker is there?
Whats the difference between the two? (okay, butane is CH3 (CH2)2 CH3, and propane is C3H8, but thats not a lot of help) I just want to make sure the cylinder wont turn into a fireball in the sunshine!

IIRC the regulator pressures for butane & propane are different so you would have to adjust the regulator to the correct pressure for whichever gas you are using. It's possible there may be something about this in the wiki.

Apparently from 2004 all appliances supplied within the EU have been standardised to run at 30mb either on Butane or Propane. Instead of 28mb Butane and 37mb Propane.
The regulator retailers appear not to have caught up yet, (or are still supplying for older appliances of course. )

Looks to me like we've got a butane regulator on it, so thats 28mb, and the 'appliance' (right grubby cooker) should be set for 30mb. So should be okay?
I'll take a match to it this evening and hope all goes well
The regulators are not interchangeable with the bottles, so you can not put a butane one on a propane IIRC, and of course they are the same colours as the relevant bottle, I used to always use propane before I got the Westy with the fixed LPG tank.
You will not have any problems with the sunshine etc.

Oh. Now Im confused... The cylinder is blue (like the butane one) but says propane on it... and the regulator (also blue, and is exactly the same as the butane regulator on that piccy) fits it fine

Okay, so Ive got a cylinder presumably full of an inflammable gas that shouldnt explode and that has a regulator that fits... tell you what, I'll light the cooker and see what happens

I was referring to the Calor bottles, if they are not Calor maybe the colours are different.
