Slurping oil

Post by Furgonzo »

Hi all,
I'm just back from my first holiday in my T3 1.7 diesel vanagon. Van is running great, starts like a dream and showed no signs of trouble. I see a small amount of bluish smoke on start up and it burps a bit of the same under a load (take-offs from stop lights, down shifts going uphill), but other than that exhaust is pretty clean. The problem is that she is drinking oil like mad - a liter every 300-400 kms. It seems every time I check it's a liter down. There seems to be a small leak at the gearbox/engine and a small drip from the crankshaft pulley, but she's not leaving more than a drop on the ground. Air filter is spotless and engine seems clean everywhere else. A compression test is in order, obviously, but any thoughts would be appreciated.
