can someone please explain how a zig unit works ?

Post by Hendrixevo147 »

Hello All, I have recently been bitten by the T25 bug and have fallen in love after going to Camper Jam with my mate in his van, and had a spectacular weekend. I have since got myself a nice VW T25 2L Aircooled Van 1982, which has some work to be done on the body but a great interior (none standard) its got a great heating sytem, with all the other usual stuff, and has been fitted with a CF6 Zig unit, the problem is I dont really now what it is supposed to do. the reason I ask is the van didnt have a leisure battery wired in, so when the van is parked up , I switch the 12V to on and I can use the lights etc (heating/Fridge/cooker are all gas) but these run off the crank battery. What happens when I plug the 240V hook up ? does it then run from mains and not my crank battery ? also when I flick the charge battery switch does it charge my crank battery too ? also how easy would it be to install a leisure battery and what would the Zig unit be capable f doing if I did ? soo many questions sorry, its my fisrt post :-)
Hope someone could shed a bit of light on this subject..
Thanks
Pete

A "zig" unit is just a battery charger in essence.
it will charge any battery it's connected to, when connected to mains power.. it won't run anything as the battery does that.
fitting another battery and transferring the camping accessories to that battery will relieve your cranking battery of a job it's not designed for.

As you're new read the wiki (above) as to fitting a leisure or auxiliary battery
