Nah... as said that is Daves van. Its weird isnt it how a few of us have or are getting the same engines but they are all fitted/built and set up in different ways. Mine is taking an RS Cosworth charge cooler that is being modified slightly I believe and because I had some special requirements with the battery position and the air filter (i wanted to keep the JX Syncro one because of the particle collector) the block has been again modified to take the AAZ alternator and water pump to get round my added requirements. I also have the AFN fanny mould so it sticks over abit more where the air filter would be how I understood it and the Turbo fan has been taken out as I dont think it does much anyway, and it has different engine bars to take the extra fanny mould length.

I am just glad its in safe hands.

Where is this dust collector I keep on hearing about? Don't remember seeing it on my air filter?

Sorry to jump on this thread, but has anyone got any pics of the 1.9 WBX snorkel as I don't think mine has one fitted?

I don't want to go wading until I'm 100% happy it's not going to flood the engine.

Cheers all

totally agree jed. when i did mine there was so many different options and routes to take. did what i thought was best for reliability and part supply and now realised that there are performance limitations to what i did.

think you`d need to do quite a few of them. standard and moddified before you knew what works best.

boils down to the old saying. YOU CANT BUY EXPERIANCE. it has to be earned. should be getting mine back sometime this week or next weekend depending on when i can rope someone to take me up to mario`s.

Hmm, can't say I have one? I've got the lid on one end and the other end is the air pipe out of the filter?

the petrol vortex is external to the filter housing the derv vortex is incorporated inside the main filter housing. another reason for keeping it.

The collector is inside the lid.

lloyd its pretty easy to keep the origonal filter housing with all its benifits you just need to move the battery tray inward about 3 or 4 inches you have plenty of room then to mount battery and filter in the same place. thats how i`ve done it. rich has similar although some how mario has got them both in there without moving the tray. :?:

i can remove my filter in 2 mins without removing anything else. :ok

Some Pics of the airbox move had to cut down the snorkel pipe but very easy to do just looking at the apollo's (thanks for the link lyolldy) the jx filter looks to have a much bigger surface area (less cleaning intervals? ) Image

Yours was a petrol though wasn't it? So your snorkel is over that side. I'm looking at trying to keep the snorkel where it is, don't ask why, just one of those things I get in my head
Chargecooler won't be arriving unfilled Feb the earliest (coming via Canada) so I have time to decide on the best option. It's good to hear what people have done, as obviously a tdi will go in eventually
And thanks for the pics Paul :ok

Well, decided to do less talking and more buying, plus I'm bored and do like a bit of retail therapy!
Got myself a chargecooler core and a radiator all the way from USA for £250
Here's the links to them
