ht lead on ignition coil melted....

Post by dandanlad »

Hi,

I own an Aircooled 2.0 t25 (lhd).....recently having not started the van for a week or so the van took a while to start (which isn't uncommon). After letting the van warm up for 10 mins or so i took it for a quick spin.....about 200 yards on route the van suddenly cut out and hasnt started since although does turn over but doesnt fire. The petrol delivery to the carbs seems ok, and a good spark seems to be present and about a month ago i fitted a new battery....however after further inspection of the ignition coil the HT lead has completley melted and burnt away!!! just wondering whether anyone may know the route cause of this? had a look on justkampers and was thinking of buying a new coil/ set of HT leads but am a bit miffed as to whether the bosch 12 volt would do the trick?...not sure whether the coil has had its day as the remains of the HT lead seem to have melted into the end.

any advice/ light on the topic would be most appreciated

steve
