Hi folks
I went for a test drive yesterday. I few questions if anyone can help.
1- The engine mount on the right side (as you are looking at the engine from the rear) The power steering pulley is in the way, catching. So we have taken a chunk out of the bar with a grinder. Its clear now, but catches slightly when I pull off hard. Does anyone know if there is an engine mount shaped to fit out there I can get hold of?
2- I know its a different alternator but the rev counter does not work properly. The arm just goes to 1. Any suggestions?
3- The water filer tank behind the number plate does not fit now, with the 1.9 being a bigger engine,- Do I need it or can I do without it ?
Thanks for any help
Paul.

Hello mate - teething troubles are a fact of life arent they!
1) Sorry, can't help
2) Change the alternator mount and fit the JX alternator
3) The only difference in size is the block is longer (ie sits higher) - the footprint of the engine is the same (hence the JX sump fitted) - so this should not be an issue. Is it catching on the alternator belt?
Obviously there may be another solution for 2) and sorry for not being very helpful with the other ones!

Hi Ringo
Yes its catching on the belt.
I had to chip away at the engine lid then mix some fibre glass, as the alternator just sits proud.
Other than that its running well. Just need to make a better plug where the oil filler pipe use to be attached.
Shame about that engine mount.

Its normally the pump that sits proud - yours must be a different setup than my old one...
If your old alternator is working then i'd be inclined to fit that instead - obviously easier to change the pulleys when the exhaust is off but its not a hard job...
Good luck

I`m doing AAZ Conversion too. I did away with small tank behind number plate flap and ran a new pipe (as I saw someone else do on ebay same AAZ) to That water outlet between injector 1 &2 where the big y shape water pipe comes out of block and goes to front to rear pipes and the first expansion bottle. But not drove it yet I will add.
As for alternator Ive just left the AAZ one on it no probs.

There is an ajustment screw on the back of the rev counter so you can set it to the aaz alternator. It needs to be 3200 at 60mph on a syncro with 15" wheels on and 215/75/15 tyres on so I assume it could be the same for other vans?

Re: Just installed 1.9 AAZ TD
Hi folks
Being running the van now for about a month. My main problem is the right side (looking in the engine) engine bracket. The one I had with the engine was too short,so we extended to fit. But it cracked in half because it was made very poor. Engine dropped so my Green Flag was called. Lucky only 1 mile from home. Had another one cast in a better stronger alloy but noticed a hair line crack appeared around it. so its off the road again. My question is -- Is there an engine bracket out there that will fit my !990 Westfalia LHD California.1.9aaz td. I've known these engine swops take place.
Hope somebody can help as the engine is running fine.
From a frustrated Paul.
Regards.
