Thanks a million for this info Kev, I'm gonna take a look in the morning. Will let you know how I get on.

Re: cause of a misfire???
So my journey towards full understanding of the internal workings of the internal combustion engine takes another step towards its final conclusion...
So I found the level that the excelerator pedal moves, so I could look down the carb throat to watch the fuel squirting in without having to call of a friend.
The gob of fuel looked okay to me, but it didn't seem consistent, so I reckon that's where the problem lies.
I took off the cap of the accelerator pump as recommended, and saw the little orange diaphragm - great.
Trub is, i couldn't access the part you had take a photo of there Kev, namely the pump spray.
i.e I couldn't get behind the bit with the green circle
All I get is Cap with 4 screws, behind this was a spring, and next was a flat disc which the spring pushes into the diaphragm. From your photo, I'm guessing that this is all one unit from a more modern Pierburg or is this the bit I've circled in red?
Eitherway, this pump unit itself seems to be moving ok (no rust on spring and everything moving okay), but I wasn't able to get to the parts where the blockage might be occuring i.e. the section showing in your photo.
I'm guessing I'll need to get inside the carb then which means taking off the top cover.
Will keep you updated...

Re: cause of a misfire???
So I took the plunge and removed the whole carb.
I found that piece that I couldn't find earlier (i was where you had said, Kev) and this is what mine looks like...
I've also identifed two brass inlets into the carb
The one on the right as you look at the picture is the fuel inlet direct from the fuel pump, but what is the one on the left? This is fully blocked, and I can't even blow down this one.
Should I be able to?
