could anyone please tell me if an Aircooled 1600 4 speed gearbox is the same as an Aircooled 2L 4 speed gearbox?

physically the same but different final drive ratio and fourth gear is taller too on the 2 litre DK box

actually , physically different.
no 'ribs' on the 1600 box well at least there about 4mm high as opposed to the dk which has deep ribs

I fitted a bored up 1600 bug engine to an Aircooled 2l box and it worked quite well but I did have a modified camshaft. Also clutch different size.
