Cader Idris camping at weekend. Recommend a camp site?

Post by maxstu »

Gotta get the crappy London City way of life out of my blood for a few days. So on friday morning heading to Cader for a peek at it's summit & surrounding views...yep it'll be cloudy as cornish scrumpy.

So any recommendations for nearby camp sites which I can use as a start point for ascent please? With or without hook up is fine by me. Just as long as I can throw back the sliding door, view a mountain with my name on it, and get stomping with utmost assurance van is not going to a smouldering pile of junk on my return.

Got my wet gear, cider, beer, single malt (to toast the mountain), wine, spiced rum, vodka and a tin of spag bol packed. That's about it I think, so more than happy to meet anyone who wishes to join me for a nice long walk starting very early saturday morning.

Also please PM only nearby wild camping spots too.

Hi Jez,

Thanks for the reply.

Found two CL's and two very basic campsites (farmers' fields) within a mile from the start carpark north side of Cader. Luckily the CL i used had EHU but at £9.00 was expected.

Enjoy yourself. I cant wait to return. It felt like a proper mountain instead of the touristy Snowdon I did back in early Oct.

Keep tuned to the weather forecast. It can turn very nasty, very quickly...as it did for me on saturday, forcing me back down, in zero visibility, driving rain and 65mph wind.

Got to the top early sunday. What a view!

Great fun :ok

Did the Pyg track a couple of years back early Jan ( normally v easy ) ended up turning round were grib goch joins. Half way back down we spotted the mountain rescue heli and found out some one was evaced off about 1/4 mile in front of were we turned back.
