dipstick snapped

Post by gardengirl »

Hi, i have a dipstick issue and can't find any info on how to fix, hoping someone here can help. I have a 1.9 petrol t25 and the last inch of the dipstick has snapped off inside and is well and truly wedged. :x Oil tube was removed and its not in there its further down. Ive been told only way I can get it out is with engine removal which sounds like a big and expensive job. Is there any other option to remove this rogue piece of metal? Any help gratefully received.

the tube is easily removed so you can then remove it easily

if its in the sump next time it has an oil change some skill with a piece of wire and a magnet will fish it out!

Hello,

An interesting tale.......

How does one manage to break off a bit of dipstick??

Were you playing the intrepid Zorro, or a musketeer?? :rofl :rofl :rofl

If you really really have a bit of dipstick in the sump, not much will happen.

I would suggest, : drop the oil, if fresh into a clean container.

You don't specify engine, but once well drained, it is usually possible to undo either the strainer or the oil filler bottom metal pipe and play with light up magnets on sticks.

Maybe just fit a magnetic sump plug.

Refill the motor with the right amount of oil, taking into account the filter, then recheck the mark on your, (short) dipstick

Cordialement,

Im not quite sure how I managed it, unfortunately nothing quite so exciting as duelling with musketeers! I'd checked the oil and was just trying to get dipstick back in when it wouldn't go all the way down, when I pulled it out the bottom end with the notches was missing and thats the bit I've managed to wedge, probably by trying to wrestle the thing in before I realise I'd broken it. I have an amazing ability to break things just by looking at them!! Thanks for the input. I don't understand why I've been told its an 'engine out' job? That seems very extreme, anyone shed any light?

Hello,

Ok, so we,ve established that the end of the stick broke off somewhere,

The dipstick tube will remove quite easily,

With the broken bit in :?: :?: :?

Engine out for a fiddly diddly job seems a bit drastic.

Dont forget to recheck your oil level by measure

Cordialement,
