Accelerator Pedal sticking

Hi,

I'm having a slight issue with the accelerator pedal in my 1987 RHD T25.
Basically it is sticking on, when I stop at junctions or traffic lights I have to hook my toes under the pedal and pull it back up to stop it revving like a crazy thing!
I assumed there was a spring somewhere that had snapped but I can't seem to see a spring or anything similar so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be very glad to hear them.

Depending on the type, it could be fraying somewhere, insecure under the front beneath your feet or spring on the carb detached/missing/broken.

Dont take chances with dodgy accellerator cable.
They are quite cheap, prob less than $20, and very effective at stopping you going anywhere in your vehicle.
On the 1.9 petrol the return spring is at the carburetor.

It is a 1.9 petrol so I shall try to locate the spring, I'll check the actual cable while I'm at it!

Don't fall into the trap of fitting a stronger spring though. If its not springing back easily, replace the cable.

I hope that is it, I've never replaced an accelerator cable before, is it difficult??

Hi Dazmundo
The cable outer is attached to the body about middle of the vehicle.
Undo the screw and keep unless new one with cable.
I found lying on back just in front of front wheel was easiest to access the cable bolt. Note the "also recommended" on the JK cable page. Think this is a 6mm head, keep this unless you got a new one.
Undo any other clips which hold cable tidy under the van,
In engine compartment, roll the throttle circular bit forward and disconnect cable. Push cable and outer out of their bracket and let fall.
Under van, pull entire cable back through the large plastic tube whch goes over the tank. Do not remove this larger tube...
Also check that the pedal itself hinges freely without cable connected.
Push new cable thin end forward to pedal area, reconnect into clips and put back up to engine area same as where old one came through.
Attach to carburettor part, you remember how this was?? !!
Back to the front pedal area, slide the rod part through pedal bracket and replace "cable bolt" with cable pulled forward to remove the slack, needs to have almost no slackness in the cable inner part. - You may need about 4 hands here with several elbows in each ... but its is do able!
There should be a rubber boot covering pedal area, missing on mine.
You may need to re-tension the cable at the pedal end several times to get it right.
Do report here your outcome and any suggestions you think are better methods.
This worked for me but others may have different/ better suggestions.
