Gearstick Rubber Boot - Should it be fixed in floor mat?

Stupid question time, but I was just wondering it the bottom lip of the rubber boot which I have highlighted with yellow arrows, is this lip supposed to be tucked under the floor rubber mat, or is it supposed to just sit on the top like mine is?

I have looked underneath, and it looks very clean, but was just wondering it it should be sealed. My OCD has started off today lol.

Now I know it should be tucked, I will tuck it. I did try, but it seemed like it didn't want to go in. Will try again, and sort it this time, cheers cruz

I keep tucking mine back under but it seems to creep out again overnight!
