not right?

Post by iowcamper »

was going to have attempt at getting my engine going on sunday and thought i would start by clearing old fuel out of the tank and fuel lines (van hasnt been started in about 2 years) but got a bit confused lol, i was under the impression that the fuel line would go from the tank (via a fuel filter) to the fuel pump in the engine and then to the carb, on my engine it goes through fuel filter then into engine bay where it is joint to what looks like a piece of garden hose ! (yellow in colour) which goes into some sort of metal tube mounted on the back of the engine bay, another piece of yellow tube comes out then joins back on to a standard fuel line into the fuel pump, i was under the impression i had bought a 1.9dg which is what i had before but i never had anything like that in the last engine as far as i remember, my last one was 1984 and this is late 1986 so did the engine change? or is it some sort of bodge up someone has put in that im best to leave well alone for my mechanic to sort or is it not a 1.9dg engine (although thats what log book has it down as) - as i say confused !! if im not explaining myself properly i will try and take some photos at the weekend to upload but thought someone might know what im on about !!

Back to the original post. It sounds like someone has fitted a fuel conditioner / magic magnet / waste of money. If the yellow pipe is plastic get rid of it because it won't be suitable for petrol or a warm engine bay. A photo would make it easier to be certain.
