My short-term solution to camping with a Doka:

Total cost £40
Long term I'll be doing something a bit more clever involving a hard top and possibly a roof tent, but that requires saving up

I love my syncro doka.. owned it over 6 years now..
seats 5 wtih loads of room.. slept in the back under the swedish canvas many times.. but with nowt else in there.. I slept once on the rear bench.. but I wouldnt recomend it... an hour or 2 is ok.. but overnight.. no ta.....
its hauled so much stuff back and forth and a lot of gear that wouldnt have gone in a panel/tin top..
But as said.. anything heavy needs putting on the back.. its awkward.. engines and the like need a hoist/fork truck etc.. its a long way up... gas bottles I wouldnt want to be shifting on and off very often... plus they need fixing (locking too) very well and the weight up high would be more of a concern..
I have a 2wd caravelle, owned for over 11 years.. its done a lot of shifting too.. middle row of seats out and its easy to get heavy stuff in..., long stuff too, 4M lengths of wood sit on the dash and can shut the tailgate.. long things are not so easy on the doka.... But smaller dirty/smelly stuff can be thrown in the back of the doka without worrying about carpets etc...
Storage in the lockers is good, when you get used to it you can pack a lot of stuff in with a bit of thought.. but access is a bit crap really.. you tend to fill it full of stuff and end up emptying most of it back out as what you want to get at is in the middle of everything... (ive cured that a bit by installing twin LPG tanks in the middle, so cant fill it so full of gear..
