What makes it tick?

Post by Captaindefib »

Hi all,

I have only recently picked up my first T25, (1983 hightop 1600 diesel) and it has just started making a ticking sound when driving along.
The noise seems to be coming from inside the dashboard area, directly in front of me, or behind the steering wheel.
It only does it when I am moving, so it is quite hard to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from.

It does not do it all the time, but when it does, it is linked to road speed, the faster I go, the faster the ticking sound.

Any ideas what this could be? or should I just turn up the radio? :)

Thanks

Is your speedo accurite? It maybe related to the speedo cable?

Disconnect the speedo cable from the back of the pod and run 3in1 oil down the cable, make sure the cable is refitted correctly and that should stop it clicking and slipping.*

The plastic collar/clip that locates the cable into the back of my speedo is broken, this causes a ticking sound at lower speeds as the cable is not aligned correctly. I have managed to cable tie the speedo cable to aid alingment. I occasionally have to reposition it as it slips slightly and begins ticking again. Pop the cover off and take a look.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it!
