Westfalia high top fiamma awning attachment!!

Post by Happy Camper 1978 »

Hi there,

Looking for a bit of help/advice.......I've purchased a second hand fiamma 45 plus (3.5m, bit on the long side but do-able) and want to fit it to my 89 westy high top.
Can anybody give me some practical advice on fitting? I can't use the rails as they are filled, so intend to bolt the brackets through the high top.......this ofcourse leads to the problem of how to deal with the tops double skin, realy not keen on messing with the interior panels but unsure if I have a choice? Also concerned that I'll have to have some kind of metal plate on the other side of the bracket location to spread the load?

Any hints will be well received.

Cheers,

Pablo

my gutters were filled with mastic type stuff,I just cut some out of the gutter with a scalpel the same size as the brackets right down to the actual gutter itself then just bolted the bracket on,been on for 18 months no problem

I think scottbott's solution is probably the best way ,as the brackets are designed for this install clamping the rails and becoming part of the bodywork....Your right the awning is a longggggg one ,but the high top could take the load and you would have to have bolts & plates showing on the interior and seal the holes up..
It will be worth it .. :ok
