Coolant Leak

So there I was driving along quite happy when I noticed steam coming out the back of my T25. Pulled over and as soon as I stopped the engine something blew in the back coz a few litres of coolant dumped on the road. I've checked the hoses but they seem sound. I'm wondering if the pump has gone as the recovery guy said there was some play in the lower wheel that the fan belt runs on. Not being a technical expert does this sound about right? Any suggestions much appreciated.

We have similar problem - if we stop and don't turn off straight away, but do a bit of manoeuvring the coolant bubbles over. We have to refill about every 400 miles. We have been told the head gasket is on it's way out.

If your's is also a 1.9 petrol (1990 from your profile) and if it's the lower left pulley when viewed from behind then it sounds like the gland's collapsed in the water pump.

They have the extra spigot for the oil cooler/warmer plumbing.

Thanks Ian. Yeah we have 2.1 Petrol and it is indeed the lower left pulley when viewed from the rear. I need to try filling up again and see where it is leaking from but if the recovery guy was right then your part link may just do the trick. Much appreciated.

Thanks Rob. Now I've read up about it I can see that a knackered one may have caused the system to blow at it's weaker point i.e the pump. I'll check out the cap I think and if it seems blocked I'll order a new one and refill. Not sure it will automatically mean my leak is fixed but well worth trying as I wouldnt want it to blow again once I fit any new parts. Cheers.

Ok taken off the dalek cap and blew through the tube. Took a bit of puff but it finally gave. I'm sure I read somewhere though that you shouldn't be able to suck as well as blow. I can suck back through the tube as well. Sound like a duffer?

Replace the cap too ... buy it from Brickwerks ... sadly the more expensive one is the way to go on this occasion.

I have been amazed at how easy it is to get the one way valve in the dalek cap screwed up by bits of dirt getting stuck in it (even though my water system seems clear of "bits").

I bought one of Brickwerks finest but on checking it a few months ago found I could blow and suck down the pipe (it was not like that when I bought it).

I did find out how to fix it though I made up a "reducer" (bits of rubber & plastic hose I had kicking around) that allowed me to connect a garden hose to the dalek's pipe and a good blast from the hose blew out the crud and made the one way valve work again as it should.
