Thanks again all. I was under the impression that I may need to jack the van stupidly high but I have a decent amount of room above the van so I will just go ahead and give it a go. (once I get an engine that is) My van is completely empty so no worries with interior. Itching to get it running, don't know why as I still need to finish the bodywork, paint and build some interior. Oh and brakes, suspension, electrics and no doubt a whole lot more

Thanks Ringo, was planning on a 1.6 or 1.9 Diesel. Not decided on turbo or not, someone said keep it simple without a turbo for now, could always upgrade at a later date. What you reckon? Jon.

In that case you do need to raise the van up fairly high. The normal 1.5 ton jack isnt big enough and you need blocks. I normally jack the van up, put it on axle stands, lower the jacks, cram blocks inbetween the jack and the van then jack up some more. Its not the safest to be honest but take your time with some good axle stands and its fine.
I put the engine on a bit of cardboard, jack the van up, slide the engine under the van, lower the van then i use a crane to lift the engine up into place.
The last bit is the hardest - as has been hinted at. I use jacks, ratchet straps anything i can get my hands on to try and level get the engine at the correct orientation so i can get the gear box mated - with a diesel (sounds like WBX isnt easy either eh Em!) the engine sits at a stupid angle so its a pain.
I'd be on the lookout for a 1.9d (a 1Y engine) or a 1.7 (KY code as fitted on some T25's including my old one - hard to come by TBH) - i'd personally avoid the 1.6 like the plague because its slow. However, none of the normally aspirated engines are fast - but better than a 1.6!

Important question - Have you got the old engine?
Whilst a bog standard diesel lump will fit in the T25 - you need the extras to make it fit. Engine bars, sump, inlet/outlet manifold, air filter etc. Sorry if im teaching you to suck eggs....

Beltin that Ringo. I don't have the old engine but do have the bars. Not sure about manifold and sump. I think I have an airfilter, alternator etc in the shed that came with it but should/could maybe fit new anyway.
I have a 3 ton jack and axel stands but I think I may wait till the van is closer to completion so I can get it outside again and make the engine the last thing I do.
1.9d 1Y sounds good to me. If one came along would it be a good idea to buy even if it stays unused for a while, say a year or so?
