Ride Lane, Farley Green

Post by ninja.turtle007 »

We went out today to explore a few Surrey lanes. Most were easy but a little overgrown. Until we drove half of Ride Lane. My God, never will I venture out without a back up vehicle again!! A bit irresponsible I Know, but luckily we didn't have any major problems.

Great lane and very challenging. I'm sure others on here must have done it. If anyone is up for it one Sunday, let me know as I would like to drive the full length, rather than chickening out half way.

Autumn green laning, does it get any better! :ok

Hehehehe... I did it a couple of weeks ago. Did you drive up the steep little bit where it has been washed out into a massive rut? The bit where you can drive up in two places in a sort of triangle area.

We started from the triangle bit, but is was getting dark and I was a bit concerned so we turned left half way along, where it meets another lane on the right. I think we drove down someone's drive but to be honest I was thinking we were going to get stuck.

Did you drive it on your own?

I had my mrs and little un with me. We where looking for a new place to camp and I spied a place on the right (just where you did the left past the farm and back onto the road) when I was out with others a few months ago. It was full of trees back then and the de forestarion has caused the big ruts in the lane and for it to become washed out. I have done the whole lane before though, and the seceret is to bridge the biggest ruts with the van and drive up the bank. I have some video of Jake and I doing it a couple of years ago, we did it then found it blocked with concrete slabs so we had to turn round and do it again. I could of swore I nearly tipped the van going back up. I will find it for you when Louise gets off the computer.

We were out looking for camping spots too. The Coldharbour ones is OK, but were was looking for somewhere a bit quieter. Best lane I have been down.

There was me, Gemma, Max and Harry in the van. Harry's first time out and I must say the Maxi Cosi are seats are fantastic. They give superb support the body and head. Max was bored until we drove down Ride Lane, I'm sure he thrives on my stress.

Great video, I have seen it before but hadn't realised they were local lanes.

How did Jake cut his head? Did he leave the window open?

Would have gotten easier if we had carried on or more difficult?

It was entirely self inflicted...The lane was really tight, whatever we we approached it the angle tilted just enough so that the raised air intake dome was just hitting the tree. Reversing out was going to be a pain, so I decided to take off the top of the intake where the van was. It was sikaflexed on. With the angle of the van and the tree in the way, and the power of the sikaflex it was a right struggle, turning it, twisting it pulling it. Decided to use brute force and get right up an angle and pull with both hands, guess what, it suddenly came free, the only thing stopping the momentum, as I pulled up with both hands bent over it was that point right between my eyebrows. Nearly knocked me right out.

Even funnier, well for Jed anyway, I then had to get to the front of the van to get the first aid kit, I was scrabbling along leaning against the van windows from the hill, turned and talked to Jed whilst I was going forward, forgot the front window was open and fell in through that smacking my head again.

Good lane though.
