Oil Pressure sender testing

Post by ninja.turtle007 »

I'm having problems with oil pressure. Well according to my oil pressure gauge I am. I have always had really good pressure at over 40 psi. But today it dropped to 0 on tick over and went up to 15 psi at 2k rpm.

I presume the resistance can be measured with a multimeter? Or is it a case of swapping the sender unit as I don't want to spend £125 on a pressure tester?

Hello,

when this happened to me it was because the oil pick up strainer was blocked - you can indeed test the resistance - the values I believe are 10-180 Ohms for 0 to 10 bar (assuming it's VDO or compatible) - I'm not sure that's linear but might give you an idea.

Hope it's just an electrical fault.

Ewen

Thanks, Aidan. Just ordered a tester from EBay, was only £40 delivered. Worth having in the tool kit.

I will give you a ring at some point to discuss gear box mods on the Westy.
