rust treatment

Just bought a bit of a project which has sat in a field for the past 2 years, the previous owner had helpfully taken the side windows out ready for a respray before giving up! have gutted the interior as it was all rotten and it will be going up to my garage in a few weeks to get some new panels welded in and some other rust sorted. When i took the side panels off the interior the insulation was very damp so i pulled this all out, at the bottom of one of the panels was about 6 inches of orange water! have soaked it all up and dried the inside out but am worried the rust will have set in, whats the best thing to do, was thinking of applying some vactan inside the panel then maybe a lick of hammerite to seal it in but do people think that will do the job or am i going to need another panel to replace that one??

Get a sandblaster in there if you can. Machine mart sell them fairly cheap if you have a big enough compresser to run one. Then vactan it. If not try a wire brush forst then vactan. Either way get rid of as much surface/loose rust as you can before treating it.

ok so all being well i can keep the panel once treated thats a relief as i have a lot of bits to renew

Provided the panel still has some strength in it and not holed massivly it will be fine.....But just remember rust treatments arn't permenant repairs. The only real way to get rid of it is cut out and replace, but obviously thats not always a viable solution.
