Flipping eck Mick that's a brilliant job. Way over and above what I expected. I knew those bolts would not be a problem for a man of your means.

And in my defence I did snap the bolt but I never fitted the bolts originally

Thanks ever so much. Your reputation proceeds you once more :ok :ok :ok :ok :ok

Re: Would anyone like to claim this - Early thermostat housing

Main body of an early thermostat housing

Looked like this before Mike got his hands on it. The bolt head holding the metal pipe flange on had somehow snapped

Bottom half (025121117A) is sat on my desk looking lonely

Must say I like the name of Mike's photobucket account.............."mentalmick" :rollin

Does stainless not react badly with alloy?

-------------------------------------------------------------

Just for if any future members do a search for early thermostat housings

1983-1985 metal early thermostat housing (not even numbered on ETOS/ETKA/VAGCAT)

part number from body is 025-121-117C or 025121117C

still available via classic parts in Germany for £160 euros as of 01/11/2011

See wiki on how to order

--------------------------------------------------------------

Thankfully this one's only cost me £25

Stainless steel is an alloy. If you mean react with the engine block etc I doubt it else why bother fitting stainless steel studs when swapping an exhaust system? (Prays for positive response - having just fitted new exhaust and stainless steel studs :? )

theres often a reaction between dissimilar metals but in this case wiould it be a problem in our lifetime
always liked the old ways with brass/bronze nuts etc on exhausts.and areas thatr were liable to immersion

Hello,

You worry me with your Stainless Steel exhaust studs. S-S will not be high tensile, OK so you're not cranking up to 150 Nm. Black iron studs are DIN 10.1.

Zinc plated studding will not do either, as the plating process drops DIN 8.8 to (category) 6.

S-Steel is inert, this is because of the mix of alloys, Nickel and Copper, also in smaller quantities more exotic 'transition' metals.

It will not react with Aluminium-Magnesium alloys.

Cordialement,

:ok
