Sliding door handle loose

Post by CovKid »

I'm sure others have had this prob. The handle becomes loose and starts to scrape the paintwork. Are there known wear points (ie a spacer/bearing) or is it just a case of tightening it up?

I replaced my sliding door handle and barrel with new and even when new there is a degree of play in it but nothing as much as you describe. Undo the nut that tightens the handle and put on some thread lock ( loctite do some) which when you do up the nut stops its undoing easily. I assume you know where the nut is if not let us know.
Im not the first and I wont be the last

probably missing one of the seals/collars, very common.
For early, from the outside in there should be a seal 211843731, then collar 251843711then a base 251843708 and a spacer washer 211843717.
For late it's the same but collar is 711A

Its an 84 caravelle. On dismantling theres the rubber seal for the body and the handle just goes straight into the lock with a screw and washer on the inside. Hmmmm....
