recon engine saga - mayonnaise in breather pipe

Post by jamesandtheopenroad »

So I thought I'd treat myself to a k&n air filter. Took the top off the filter box, disconnected the breather pipe - mayonnaise in it.

It's a recent recon engine and I've had it back for teething problems a few times. Now this.

The coolant level has been dropping lately with no obvious exits. When the engine gets hot in traffic whilst idling and the fan kicks in the oil pressure light flashes but goes out again when revenue are increased.

What the chuff is going on?! I don't intend to try and fix it myself, but I want an idea before I phone them and tell them i'm bringing it back in ... again.

maybe one of the bottom "O" rings has failed, as this would allow coolant into the sump and the condense would eventually enter the breather.
however is this after a long run or short stop starts?
this would happen if it is the case of short stop starts

the light might well flash if...
The wrong oil grade has been used.
Oil filter is crap
The tick over is too slow.
The sensor is buggered.

Coolant leaks are not attributed to the engine all of the time, make sure you're not loosing it elsewhere.

Thanks Kev. I don't know when or how long the mayonnaise has been there - I've been doin a mixture of driving - some long distance, some heavy traffic. Sounds like a bugger to repair though, if it's an 'o' ring.

Cleaned it out yesterday. Got to go to Cambridge this weekend, so i'll check again when I get back.
