Black Condensation Marks on roof lining

Post by Miss Syd »

Has anyone found a super cleaner that will get off the black spots which sometimes form with the condensation from camping in the van. I have tried nearly everything; home made and commercial cleaners, and it has all come down to loads of elbow grease for not brilliant results? Cheers. :)

Miltons Sterilizing Fluid does the job just fine.

We use that and it works a treat, ours came up like brand new  Use goggels though because it burns your eyes, I had a right job getting my contact lenses out that evening I can tell you

We used some stuff called Astonish Mould & Mildew Remover. Its made in the UK by London Oil Refining Company Ltd, http://www.astonishcleaners.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; however Ali reckons that any mould and mildew remover will do the job. It was sprayed on, left for a few minutes and then brushed over with a soft brush (an old tooth brush for the fiddly bits). Then any excess was wiped off with a soft cloth. You need to be careful though to avoid wrecking the flock type lining on the inside of the roof.

Ali recommends goggles and a mask given the contents which include chlorine based bleaching agents, anionic surfactants and sodium hydroxide. A 750ml (25 fl oz) spray bottle just about did the job and also didn't leave the camper smelling like a swimming pool although we did leave it airing out for several hours. Definately a worthwhile job for the result.

Just as a sideline to cleaning the roof lining in the westy... Ours is looking good (slight damage from previous cleans) but we still have flock falling off as dust when we shut/open the roof. We have thought about painting or something inside to stop it as you never know what you might be breathing in. Any suggestions :?:

Thanks for all your suggestions. Finally got some Dettol Mould and Mildew remover and it has worked a TREAT! Didn't have to scrub too much either, although it does make your eyes water a bit when you get too close. I can't believe how clean it looks now! I love you guys x

x-press; yes, I tested a small area with bleach originally but it came out all patchy and was very awkward to use on the roof without getting it everywhere! It also ruined my good t-shirt because I forgot to cover up!! Duh
