Sorry yet another problem we can't find an answer to...

Post by Bert1985 »

Bert's speedo has never worked since we bought him. Today we have realised that the end of the cable is visible behind the hub cap and when we wiggle it it moves on the speedo. Should it have a cap or something on the end?

There should be a cap over the centre of the hub that keeps the grease in. The speedo cable fits through a square slot in the middle of the cap and is held in place with a circlip. If your van has got plastic hubcaps a previous owner might have taken off the grease cap to get them to fit?

Equally, the caps may be there, but the square hole, for one reason or another, may now be round.

Often the cable ... which has a square end to be driven by the grease hub cap ... wears the softer cap hole round so the speedo slips or doesn't drive at all, here's the replacement cap .. http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... gory_id=47
