Hi another boring question about wheels!!!

I have purchased some 2001 Merc SLK wheels 7Jx15 H2 ET37, refurbished them (chuffed with result). Anyway took them to chessington tyres and spent 1/2 listening to him umming and ahhing. Eventually, he spoke to someone and Mitchelin and the result was if I have van tyres they will sit to high, and adivsed me to sell them and buy something else. Is this correct, or was he trying to treat me like some dumb blonde????

7" rims probably need 215mm or wider rubber ( I don't know exactly, I'm not a tyre expert) and to get a C/R rated tyre in this width and 15" would probably result in a tyre that is significantly bigger than the original 185R14C, I know you can get 205R14Cs (which are a lot bigger - as fitted to Syncros) under a 2wd van but the affect on the gearing is noticeable, if you have a standard engined and geared bus then staying close to the original rolling diameter is best for driveability/economy and handling - that would be something like 215/65(60?)/15 but whether you can get correctly weight rated and reinforced tyres in that size I don't know

It was good that your tyre place took the trouble to consult Michelin, most places would probably have just stuck on some non suitable low profile car tyres and taken your money, regardless of the potential danger and lack of insurance cover possibilty

tbh Brickyard is probably a better resource on non standard tyres and wheels, there's a lot of info on there and knowledgeable peeps who don't come on here, or if they do they don't answer q's much ime

Quick search on blackcircles brings up quite a few tyre options that are 97 weight rated and above on a 215/65/15 tyre

205/65/15 and 215/65/15 tyres are available in commercial ratings and will fit 7" wide alloys.
These sizes won't alter your speedo reading or gearing either.

205/65/15 and 215/65/15 MPV tyres are also available upto 100 load rating which is more than enough for a T25.
