Ethonol by stealth or perhaps it was publisized and knowone really understood the real consequences of adding this substance to our fuel.
The point is we are quick to attribute leaks to the age of our vehicles but there is definately another possibility for this apparent rise in fuel leak related problems.
Why should we be concerned: well Ethonol rots and corrodes just about everything, steal/brass/Aluminium/rubber so pretty much most of your fuel system....admittedly slowly but it it rots it all the same.
It's a fact that racers using both Ethanol and Methonol in there race bikes never leave the fuel in their tanks but drain it back into plastic containers after every meeting.
So why have the petrol companies introduced Ethonol into it's petrol formula's? from my understanding this is a Government pressure issue....Green/Bio fuel thing..I'm sure others out there could put a more politically correct slant on this one.
Petrol by it's very nature is a cocktail of different ingrediants, these formula's are forever changing but we all assume that they are always for the better...think again.
The worrying truth is..we are now having to deal with the consequences of both age and now Ethanol related leak issues.

Much the same story with oil Martin, and the reduction of vital ingredients in oil for protection of our engines, that have flat tappet technology.

Perhaps a good reason to stock pile a few gallons of the good stuff while you can.
Mineral 15W 40 is becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of these days......I wish I had bought 10-15 containers of that Texaco Havoline 15W 40 a couple of years back from Morrison's petrol kiosk's, instead of just the 4.....
it was just £4.99 for 5l rrrrrrrrrr.

Have done so for at least 20 years across a range of v-dubs. That said, the mere mention of teflon tends to spark a never-ending debate but I've had good results with it.

Re: Worrying Ethonol trend
what's the main problem with teflon they use it in race engines, engines seem to last 170k or more with it, how well did your engines do on it cov? what's the argument with it, i am tempted to use it and join the dark side.
