I've just had a recon engine fitted and it's running really nicely (after a few teething problems). However, once it's up to temperature, if I come to a traffic jam, as the temperature goes up and the engine idles, the oil light will start to sporadically flash - not constantly, just time to time. And when I increase the revs, it goes out.
Doesn't flash when driving and no buzzer of death.
Anyone know what it might be?

Re: intermittent flashing oil light
Take it back to the installer and tell them to sort it. DO NOT meddle with it and invalidate the warranty.

Re: intermittent flashing oil light
If the engine is under warranty take it back to the guys who put it in. Get them to take it for a spin, and go with them to make sure they do not go around the block. Make them see that the light comes on. I took my van to several garages who apparently fixed my problem, but the minute I got it on a motorway and then stopped at a junction the oil light would come on.
Get them check the idle setting as Kevtherev suggests. It could be an easy fix.
My sob story...
I had a similar problem, it only happened when the engine had been warm for a while, normally traffic jams and coming off motorways etc. Just driving around town would not do it, it had to be high speed driving followed by a sudden stop. A quick blip of the accelerator would make the light go out, take your foot off and it would come back on. I spent many traffic jams with my foot lightly on the peddle, cannot tell if this hiding a problem and making it worse or a temp fix.
I eventually changed the oil, filter and both sensors. Changed the oil some more, and flushed it, and changed the oil again.... At this point I found some metal in the oil. My thoughts on my problem are that the swarf that I found may have been getting trapped and reducing flow some where in the oil system that interrupted the flow when the engine went from being under higher pressure when under load (i.e. revving) and then suddenly dropped off (i.e. traffic jam). It was like there was not enough oil going around the engine. That swarf may come from my oil sump being tapped after someone else threaded it. Either way its still going 5000 miles later, although its now on 130k with the original engine.
The other scenario, is that the oil is getting too hot and not flowing to where it should be going (what oil have they put in) - or you could have larger clearances somewhere in your engine than there should be, is it a new oil pump or the old one?
I ended up putting 5w50 to counter act the oil getting too hot issue (or an oil cooler), and a new oil pump. For now everything appears to be okay.
Other things to think about are the oil pressure relief valve. Is it working?

I potter along at 60 remembering to fill up every 250 miles
