Expanding Body Filler Foam Adhesive Stuff?

Post by skippymoss »

Recently had a new Rear Side Panel welded in.
The inner panel is bonded to the outer panel originally with some kind of foaming adhesive
Assumed that I could buy some from one of the local motor factor/ paint suppliers but no-one knows what the hell I'm on about
The points at which it used to be is circled on the pic below
Bonded.jpg
Just need to know what to buy to bond them back together please?
Pretty urgent as the painting gets underway on Monday

I just use a good bead of seam sealer/panel adhesive.
Holds it well enough, although it doesnt expand, but if the bead is thick enough it will hold.

Got some of that.
The gap is biggish though...10mm at one point
A beefed up version of that crazy foam builders use for gap filling might be good but not sure it exists outside of the factory though
Was probably put in by a robot originally

As above - any polyurethane adhesive/sealant such as Sikaflex,Soudaflex etc - it's what they are designed for. Off the top of my head I think it is a 2mm thickness minimum is what is needed. 10mm is no problem - just use a piece of gaffa tape or sellotape so that it doesn't slump out.

If you want the acetic acid to start rust formation on a nice new panel use it!!!!!!!!
