Oil leak (New engine?)

So after a fantastic trip all the way down the wesy coast of france got all the way to a fantastic sand dune La Dune De Pyal. Its now time to fix this dame oil leak, She left little puddels when ever we stoped and a fine mist most on the back of the van. I had an idea that it was comming from the back of the engine flywheel end, and i had changed the crank oil seal but still she dribbled. Well when i striped the engine this is what i found.

I think theres been a problem from the start so now its time for a new engine. I dont have much confidence with Vega as that where it came from 3years ago we put 30 thousand on the engine (mostly holliday miles). Im thinking The Engine shop any sugestion?

The bearing can be replaced so why replace the whole thing?

Its 1.9 DG Petrol Like i said its a Vega unit so the bearing is just as bad on the out side edge plus the cam shells had gone and there was/is what looks like bathroom sealant in and around the engine

the sealant would be Hylomar which is pretty standard use.

I would replace the damaged shells unless the casting has had it
A properly reconditioned engine will be 5 times the cost of the repair.

Unless you have lost faith in it entirely, then so be it

Engine shop is good and for a good working replacement engine you could try Elite engines, they come with a guarantee and warranty, as they are sold as working engines with worn parts replaced

Hey, don't panic, its only a bearing run out.

If you've got no score marks on the crankshaft journal then just replace with a complete set, check for oversize.

To avoid the orange goop syndrome, use Hylomar, (if its good enough for Rolls Royce....)

If I'm not preaching to the converted, use neat Wynns to lubricate everything as you go.

Make sure the con rods fall under their own weight on the crank,

Make sure that the crank turns freely when you nip up the crankcase.

Use German gaskets,

Make sure the cooling system isn't full of blue silicone sealant ... one of Vege's most endearing features.
