What a huge thread!! I've read the first 70 or so pages, I'll catch up with the others shortly too in case I've missed anything.

I've just got an LT (a bit of a project) and am thinking of roller painting it after a little bodywork's been tidied up - the kids have made me promise not to cover this van with daisies I suspect this will be a spring job now so I've plenty of time to read the rest of the thread and collect rollers, tape, paint and all.

Is it possible to prepare the van well in advance (eg sanding it down)? With such a large van the sanding is going to take an age and a lot of muscle power, it would be better if I could tackle this a section at a time over a number of weekends and then perhaps just give it a light brush over before painting.

Yes you can but use the vactan on any exposed metal in the meantime. It can then be sanded flat just before you paint. The DVD will save you hours of work reading the thread.

Silky, trust me you need the dvd. It has everything you need in the form of a step by step guide and equipment needed to carry out the task. It worked for me. Rob

I contacted Rustoleum direct for a paint chart - they wanted £15, I've emailed the one suggested earlier in the thread but haven't had a response. I've heard Homebase are a stockist and I can pick up a chart there for free so I'll pop in there.

Really looking forward to giving this a go!

i just want to say, what really makes this happen is the paint, it's truly great stuff, it's impressed many people i know with the finish, even without flatting down and polishing. one thing though, if you get some really nasty bird poo on it, get it off quick, it has a tendency to burn through your lovely paint!

Yes to be honest. Take much longer to dry, could 'bloom' if temperature gets too low and its not pleasant work in colder weather. If you have a heated garage possibly. At least one 80/90 member has rollered in November with good results but far better april/may if doing outside - for the paint and for you.

im going to give the inside a quick spray with a gun as it be easier than a roller what would you recomend on the mixture

Is it worse to leave a surface just with primer for 6 months, or to give it a quick once over with Rustoleum until Spring when it can be done properly?

I'm in the process of sorting out the rusty bits on the LT, we're back to shiny metal in some parts and want to make sure it's protected over the winter.

I'd say Rustoleum. Primer tends to be porous. That said, the air is damp and you may therefore find you'll get rust reappearing here and there.
