Had another look at the pipe today and it does look a bit worn. Thanks for all the advice, you guys definately know your stuff.

Very common pipe to go....they corrode from the outside, mainly around the brazing points and bends to the smaller take off pipes.
Don't forget your antifreeze....time to flush and replace...you'll be needing 8 litres of good quality phosphur and phosphate free...long life OAT based is best. VW's own G12++ but it is very expensive and there are suitable alternatives.

I had a leak from the very same pipe mate, and I purchased a new one from Brickwerks via the link Kev posted on page 1. Well worth the money as its a Genuine OEM VW pipe too :ok

As to fitting it, its quite easy. Make sure you get an new o-ring seal too, if you let Michael/Simon know, they will include one for you too :ok

Thanks for the info guys. Ordered the new pipe this morning and have emailed Brickwerks tonight to ask them to send out the o-ring seal thingy as well. Don't feel too comfortable about fitting it myself although I would really like my van running again for the weekend. Kevtherev seems to think its really easy but he hasn't met me yet!
