Leak!!!!

Post by Basilbus »

Oh dear, took my basilbus out for a wee run today and there appears to be hot water coming out from a pipe at the back? Water level in top up tank is way down. I can see where the water is coming out and it feels a bit spongy. Is there an easy way to seal it up?

Had a look on wiki put couldn't find a solution. Any ideas you fabby people?

Depends on alot ...is it a rubber pipe or metal pipe, is it at the end /middle or what..A little more detail would help.

I am laughing at my lack of attention to detail......thats cause I haven't really got a scooby!! Its a metal pipe for sure and its just before a bend, the pipe is underneath and to the left side of the top up tank if you are looking at it from the back, am I making any sense yet??? Tried to open the top up tank but its stuck.

Tricky...so I take it you have a Petrol engine. If its the metal pipe then most likely its corrosion and so in reality you will need a new /second hand part. I have a diesel with a totally different set up...Some of our petrol engined experts will be along later

My crystal ball says....If it's a petrol engine and a late system then the only pipe I can think of is this one..

Yes its a 1990 petrol. Should I just get a new pipe or is the old one fixable in the short term? Will try and get some pics tomorrow. Sorry for using general chat........blinkin newbies eh!

Well...you could try but it's highly probable the rest of the pipe is very thin and a weld would fail and seeing you have to take it off to weld you might as well replace it. Order a replacement pipe from brickwerks and you should have it by Wednesday. At least then you know it won't fail on your journey. But make sure you order the correct pipe.
