Rear diff stuck on....help!

Post by dcfb77 »

Picked up my twin diff'ed syncro after its been sitting in a friends garage for 9 months and the rear diff won't turn off!!
The light stays on to confirm its on and it definitely feels like its on.

Anyone come across this before or have an idea of how to fix it?

Any help welcome.

I presume so. It worked fine before and it ain't been touched whilst it was in his garage.

Aidan, can I trailer it to you for a gearbox and diffs rebuild? Or do you only take the gearbox/diffs on their own?

I just want my baby to work

Thinking this through, If it werent parked up with the diff lock on someone must have got in their and had a yank on the knob while it was parked up and there was still some vacuum in the reservoir. Cant see it engaging on its own. Once the vacuum in the reservoir was spent by engaging, there would be no way of un-engaging without starting the engine.

Now, if its been left engaged I would imagine it has stuck, or you havent got enough vacuum to get it moving out again. Get some revs on, if you can drive and reverse in a straight line and give the knob some exercise. If that does'nt clear it its time to get under the van or phone a friend.
