Well I got up early and watched the gp. not bad for once any how back to the van,finnished off a little skimming of filler and rehung the os front door and also the replacement n/side.
next the slider, no rot or any other issues, just a smear of filler. the main issue was allignment, I refitted it and the vertical gap at the rear top was 9.5mm

and bottom 5mm

at the front it was 6mm at the top and 9mm at the bottom

as well you can see that the allignment was out in relation to the swage line, most noticable at the top,
I have readjusted to the max on the elongated holes and now have;
top left 8.5
btm left 6
top rht 7
btm rht 8
So I will remove the lower rollers from the door and elongate the 3 holes so I can get a touch more movement, the aperature is 1.5mm wider at the top of the door so it will never be perfect but I would like it to look nearer to the eye and split the difference to 1mm max
sounds a lot of work but its about an hours worth and it would really bug me to leave it

Its better doing that bit of fiddeling though to get it right, the doors look awful if its not done.

Well DHL finally delievered from the far ends of the empire , bit like strip poker this but much nicer

excitement is building as to wether its correct or not

Well nice to work with a decent gauge of steel let the panal in

it fits well with no grips or welding yet


so going to treat the seams prior to fitting permanently

Job I was putting off was/is the removal of these trims, last respray they were left, but as they are brittle it was cheek clenching not helped by the sealant

it gets really solid further up but its like point of no return

I was thinking the same Just picked the same panel up from Schofields, hope it fits as well as that one

Well I did say I was waiting on a juicy item or two or more its very nice thick metal
took a while to arrive started in shall we say a distant iron curtain country, still had some cryllic on it , anyhow it befits this van.and its now well and truly welded on and sealed.
removed the rear dg screen and was very happy to find no rust/rot

this shows how well the seal has done its job,

Nice to see that its got that little fillet piece on where it butts to the inner arch; mine had rusted away and I had to fabricate a new one. Ironicly, mine had rusted out where the factory plug that 'sealed' the hole where the factory would have injected rust inhibiting wax

I wonder... I cant remember but are the vans sealed then the injection done then the grommet fitted, would seem the most likely scenario, in which case thats why the seal around the grommet is failing, (it also gets full force nof years of carp thrown at ti,)
bit like the seat belt mounts protruding through the sealant and causing the mounts to fail.

Well notice ages ago that the os rear lights were a bit dim , found this

lamps weren't located correctly and heat from bulbs has melted 2 lens holes.
I had run out of adjustment on the slider in so far as I couldnt go higher with the door, so removed the top roller assembly and took the saw to the thing, removed about 2mm"ish and now the door runs smooth and alignment is nice

either the hole or the door is out as there is a difference of 1.5 mm width at the top v the bottom, anyhow as it is now it looks visually right so Im going to leave it at that.
Now I have removed the dg rear screen ok but no ammount of effort would remove the sides so I have cut and discarded the rubber seals, figuring that the seals are cheaper than the windows, after cutting them, off on the inside they were still hard to coax out, perhaps this is why?

Great job That panel fits perfect.

I need to remove my rear window at some point to sort out some blistering, which is starting to look unsightly.

To be fair, the pattern rear arches also fit quite well just that the metal is thin and the definition is a bit er lacking.

Well painting tommorow onwards but first a little more work to the seams

they have been gritblasted and treated a while ago so just taking the dremel with a mini disc and this to get into the bottoms again and to even out the width of the seams so they are nice and parrallel

this next area had a covering of filler and there is and was no reason that I could see

so just poured some vactan down the seams to get right in to any bit that was missed, and thats about it,
next is the boring ,mundane painting.
