Where to get poles from to make a CAB bunk for my LT?
Hi,
has anyone got any ideas on where to source poles from that are strong enough to support a toddler/small child as part of a cab bunk?
I want to make one for my LT.
Preferably want poles that can be dismantled and stored.
I was wondering about giving bluebird customs a ring with the LT dimensions and seeing if they could make one up for me. I'll go and measure at lunch!
Cheers,
Ringo

Hey - try a local engineering / fabrication shop, they can make anything you want with a sketch and in my experience are generally very reasonable.

Having seen it used for masts!

With the extra width that the LT has maybe satellite poles are what is needed here to give the rigidity. An 8ft x 2inch x 14g alloy one is around £20. Annoyingly I cannot see a sleeve that would enable it to be dismantled. I suppose that a piece of 2 inch bore tube could be sourced somewhere.

I've not tried it yet but what about old tent poles, you could use fabric from a simple camp bed too.

They would be too thin especially with the greater width of the LT.

I would think so to.
Thanks guys - yes, i think a trip down to my local metal fabricators is required! I'll try and pop in on Friday and ask them for a price.
Suitable material for the hammock? Hmmm...
Cheers,
Ringo

You reckon that will be strong enough and not bend in the middle?

Re: Where to get poles from to make a CAB bunk for my LT?
couldn't you get 3 lengths of wardrobe pole? 2 (for example) 2" diameter & one slightly larger and use the large one in the middle & with the smaller diameter ones either end
you could stop them slipping by drilling holes through & using a pin (I don't know what they're called but I've seen 'R' shaped split pins)
then they could rest in caravan bunk cups
a bit like this

but then, by the time you've faffed around making that, it might be cheaper to get them made up for you

The bamboo will be more than strong enough if right thickness. Light too.
