Floor make up..
I'm about to start laying down a new floor.. I have bought some sound deadening / insulation called "fatmat" to go down on top of the metal, and below the ply..
Is this how most van have the floor done? Do some have a raised floor to accomodate the foot for the table etc? Just trying to work out the best way to do it when the van comes back from respray next week..

Yeah interested to know too - though I think I would have done it just how you drew it.

You have to drill a hole in the (van) floor unless you raise the interior floor up by loads - they're about 3" deep.Poseidon wrote:Do some have a raised floor to accomodate the foot for the table

My ply is about 15mm (I think, I rarely see it) It's fixed with a few self tapping screws if I remember correctly.Scammellman wrote:Might sound like a silly question but how do you fix the ply to the metal and what thickness ply will you use?

That's how I've done mine. My floor already had a hole cut in it for the table base so all's well. All I would add is that mind you dont make the base too thick otherwise the sill step trim might not fit back on properly, though you could raise its base by adding a little fillet of wood underneath it I suppose. And dont forget, if you end up cutting the floor, to put some protective primer/paint on the bare metal [it was missing on mine

It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Re: Floor make up..
In the past I have just glued (gripfill) the ply to the metal floor.. I will probably do the same this time, just wanted to check that the way I was doing it was generally the correct way!
Just been looking at the fatmat product, it looks really good stuff! I really hope its good.. have 100sq ft of the stuff!!

i used 30mm rivets so no sharp objects under the van. ( the dog loves to sleep under it )
