Holdsworth villa 3 upper bed

Post by 51flat4 »

I'm wondering if anyone can help as I've a villa 3 which some one has taken the top bed out of and added some of his own (I think) additions, at the moment there are plyboard carpeted runners running towards the front of the van but stop just infront of the top windows over the cab is a carpeted 13mm plyboard sheet but the other is missing been removed, I've added a second board but unfortunatley when in position makes a step up in height because this sits on top of the runners, my question is do people think these are original or can I remove them so that the new board will sit on top of the other runners underneath? any help or advise most welcome and pics would be good.

Hi I will have a look for you tomorrow, as I have a Villa 3 myself. mine has it's original 1991 interior, and the upper bed is made up of 3 equal sized panels that stack up on each other above the cab when not in use. they all can be lifted down easily, and they are not fixed in any way to the bus or each other. there are thick runners that seem to run front to back that are triangular in shape which are covered in the same material as the headlining. I will check about that extra piece you mention.

Cheers for that, as you can see in the photo there is this other runner placed ontop, I don't think it should be there. I've tried looking at photos online of interiors but most people don't seem to take photos of the bed area. Below this runner are the triangular sections you describe which are covered in the head lining material and I think the bed sections should run on this. Does your bed extend all the way back to the cupboards? and how long are the individual bed sections? as the one I have left extends back to the first roof strengthening bar which you can see in the photo.

Hi, I've just popped outside with my tape measure and had a look and measure. each of the 3 sections above the cab are 590mm deep. they are all the same, so it doesn't matter which order they go back if you take them down. the red carpet section in your picture on top of the triangular section is there on my bus too. it runs both sides from the rearmost cupboards right up to the front cupboard. with the 3 bed sections in place, they go from the front cupboard to about the position of the rear seat. So whoever sleeps up top stands on the rear seat, then steps up onto the worktop to the right of the hob/grill lid, and up and in. There are only 3 sections to the top bed as together they make 1800mm or 6ft long, so plenty long enough for adults or kids, any more sections and there would be no room to actually get up in there...
the 3 sections themselves seem to have a matching headlining type material to the underside of them, and the top side (on mine at least) is covered in a dark brown similar material. they are padded but not vey thick. they stack up on top of each other when not in use. They fit quite snugly into that red channel in a 'T' shape.
I hope this helps.
