Length of Fuel Pump Push Rod? Anyone sell new?

Post by Mickyfin »

If you have read my other thread titled "Tick Over Ok, But Hesitation every 20-30 seconds", you will know that i have replaced pretty much everything with regards to the HT, and Vacuum set up with the correct parts. The only things I have not yet replaced is the Rotor arm, and Dizzy Cap.

I'm starting to wonder if my tick over hesitation could be related to the fuel pump push rod being worn.

Does anyone know what the correct length should be?

Also, does anyone know of a supplier for new fuel pump push rods please?

Many thanks in advance!

PS - When I bought my Syncro, it had an electric fuel pump fitted with the old original pump still fitted in situ, but not connected. I have since replaced the fuel pump with a new one, and removed the electrical one.

Couldn't find a fuel pump push rod on Brickwerks (My preferred choice), but found one on JustKampers...

http://www.justkampers.com/shop/fuel-pu ... 10395.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

May try this route after renewing dizzy cap and rotor arm.

How did you get on with it, did it improve things? Did you check it side by side with yours to see for wear, and if so, how many mm wear was there ?

Thanks :ok

100 mm is the length of the rod.
Make sure the new pump is well greased and the gaskets are on the right way.

Cheers Kev, I have already fitted the new pump, and replacing the push rod will be something I will do if I cannot cure the hesitation at tick over today. All vacuum hoses have been replaced apart from a couple under pancake which I will be taking off today to inspect choke set up, as choke is currently not working, and maybe the cause of the hesitation.

The JK one doesn't say its for post 83 models. I have a late 85 DG engine but must say it looks the same.

Would you mind uploading a pic of the rod once you've received it? I'd like to see what the sharp end of it looks like.

Mine is 2mm short (98mm) but I still seem to be getting enough fuel.

if you are not getting enough fuel for idle then you wont be getting enough under load... so I doubt its that..
So far never seen a pump pushrod problem..

rotor arm and dizzy cheap enough to change..

Dirt/water in the carb??
Has it got the idle stabilisation device (electronic) bolted tot he side of the carb?? (carb denoted at a 2e4)
adjust the idle stop up a fraction..

sticky advance weights in the dizzy..
vacuum leak...

I have pretty much ruled out vacuum as I replaced and renewed every single vacuum hose for new.

Not sure about the electronic thing on the carb?

When I removed the pancake, it does look dirty inside.

Im not sure how to adjust the tickover stop?
