Hello, just wondering if anyone knows how to fit new exhaust valve guides? I've been told by my local garage that it's a specialist job involving liquid nitrogen! Does that sound right?
Never done it on a T25 but generally you cook the head at 300' for half an hour, put the guides in a freezer for a few hours, then hammer or press them in. Then you have to ream the guides suit the new valves. Like croc says, give the job to an engine workshop. I think there are a couple in Plymouth, Ray Brown Engineering and Paul Inch Engine Services. They might be able to suggest somewhere nearer 'leven.
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.
Thanks for that advice...I was just about to order a new cylinder head from VW Heritage. Much rather pay £8 for two guides than £250 for a new head.
I've just emailed Cornwall Engine Services over in Redruth...fingers crossed this fiasco could finally be sorted.
