The 1.7 was a standard d****l engine fitted to the T25/T3 .... https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Di ... _Diagnosis Perhaps it may be wise to be certain of what you post in future ?

1.6, 1.7 and 1.6 turbo I believe were all standard, the 1.9 and 1.9 turbo are both conversions :D

As our campers in general tend to do much less than average annual mileage (14K) cambelt/idler replacement tends to be more about the age rather than the mileage.
I would recommend you have someone inspect the belt for tell tail signs of age (shiney/cracked/perrished/) but definately have it changed if you are in any doubt what so ever.
It's been along time since I've done one on an 8 valve Diesel but I don't think they are overly complicated and I would guestimate the labour at a little over 2 hours.....(I'll have a look at my AutoData for you)
I know there are issues around bottom pulley bolts on certain engines coming loose (I'm sure someone on here will clarify that situation) and perhaps there is a modded bolt you also need if this is the case?

I think the AAZ is the engine with the real problems around the crank pulley. £180 is pretty standard, but if you know nothing about the engine, I'd check the tensioner and idlers are getting replaced with the belt.

If you're tempted to do it yourself, it's not that tricky as long as you're methodical - you'll need locking tools for the cam, pump and be very sure you can find TDC on the flywheel. You also should get a tool to counterhold the cam pulley as you tighten with a torque wrench. If you plan on doing any work on the van in the future, these tools are invaluable - you won't need that much more to change the head gasket for example...

Good luck with it

Man this is a cranky thread, whats up with you all

Changing a cam belt isnt that hard, its like anything else once you have done it the one time the times after that take less than half the time to do. I think that when you buy the cam belt it comes with a new tensioner if you buy from GSF.
