Just had a shock. Having had my syncro insured with Glynwood for a couple of years, it turns out the agreed value never got processed by them. The insurer (KGM) has today refused my valuation (based on what Aidan and I discussed a few months back) and want a "club" valuation.
Just trying to work out simplest & quickest way of getting this. Does anyone in Club80-90 (or better still syncronauts) do insurer accepted valuations? I also belong to T2OC so could use their valuation service but don't want to wait too long to get it sorted and I'm not sure how well they know syncro values.
Any suggestions gratefully received. Having had a van nicked a few years ago, I'm very keen to get this sorted ASAP.
Cheers
Mick

Re: Insurance Valuation Needed
Hi, I was about to ask the same question.
I have been meaning to ask since May when I reinsured my manual T25 1.9 petrol (1983) for the 2nd year of owning my first camper. I keep not getting around to searching previous threads in detail as it does not seem to be urgent when I am also looking for a job! Yours is a new post so I thought rather than doing one myself I would hi-jack yours. Hope you don't mind. Me posting will hopefully make the thread more likely to be spotted so we both get help!
I was told by Just Kampers that I could also supply my own valuation with pictures but I really wouldn't have a clue as there are so many variants out there! It's a very well done part DIY fit and I've spent about 2k making her better since May 2010, including new sink/hob and fuel tank.
Good luck with finding your answer and apologies again for hi-jacking

Re: Insurance Valuation Needed
I've done loads for Glynwoods.
I used to supply a list of qualifications, they don't seem to want them now.
Happy to do it for you.

If JK are happy with self valuation, a starting point would be either a) what you paid + spent on it b) what you think it would cost to replace. If you're unsure you could put some pics and details up here and get members to comment, or get an opinion from a T3 trader (I'm not sure who's local to you). Another option is the Type 2 Owners Club who charge £20 for valuations of members vehicles (assuming you want to join - I did just so I could qualify for an insurance discount - they have regional members who do the valuations).
My problem was that normally my own valuations have been accepted by insurers. In this case it seems it got looked at by someone who didn't understand syncros and dug their heels in saying I had to get an independent valuation from a club.
Do get an agreed value sorted though. A few years ago I forgot to sort it out and my van got nicked. I was gutted when I only got £1300 for a £4k van

Re: Insurance Valuation Needed
I have a customer who has had the type 2 owners club put a valuation on their van.
Now said customer has their van for sale they have a unrealistic value in their mind as to what the van is worth, they still have the van.
They put £5000 on something I would think £2500 to £3000 should buy.

Cheers Simon - I'll send you a pm
Thanks for the advice Mick, I'd feel more comfortable getting someone who knows more, then I can see how it compares to your a) and b). I think I may get two valuations, I understand Simon's point that a valuation is a lot different than a selling price. The main thing is to get the insurance company to agree a good value. I don't want to sell her anyhow! Sorry to hear about your theft.
Happy motoring
