strange clunking sound !

hi all wondered if someone could give me some advice please ? drivung my t25 today when a strange clunking sound started ! it sounded a bit like my golf did when the cv joint packed up but it gets louder as i accelerate then stops as soon as i take my foot of the gas ? it seems to be coming from the front in the middle somewhere its an auto gearbox 1.9 petrol thanks :?:

That's sounds Like the problem I had new cv's cured it :D

if it has just started , iwould have thought the joints are ok ! as worn cv joints click for ages and gradualy get worse!
it is more likely that the cv joint bolts are loose and the shaft is hanging off! :ok

i'll have a look and see what i find just thought it was strange that as soon as i took my foot off the gas it stopped even though my speed was still the same :?:

ok got it up in the air and crawled underneath no loose bolts boots all ok and could move the shaft in and out from gearbox to wheel a little no play back to front or up and down put it on axle stands and into gear went through the box and no noise :?: are there cv joints on the front because thats where it seemed to come from but i know sound travels it doesnt happen all the time just drove it for about 5 miles and it seems ok ?

no cv's on the front it's 2wd,
could it be the engine and gearbox moving on a tired mount (s) and allowing the exhaust to bash against something ? not uncommon
did you check the rear wheel bearings too while it was on axle stands ?

when it happens its a constant knocking sound i read the wiki on cv joints and it seems to be that but i couldnt find any play in them :?:

ok pretty sure its o/s rear thats clunking do i need to change all 4 or just the 2 outers ? thanks jeff

It's worth just stripping them down, examining them, and if they're ok just lather them in fresh grease and put them back on. It cured the knock on mine which was caused by almost solidified grease.
