eberspacher b2l help needed
Hi ive taken eberspacher heater off my van in order to try and fix it but have found a connector that doesnt seen to go anywhere.
See attached pic....

Anyone know what it is for, do i need to connect it ?
Also what size is the fuse in the control unit.

What colour wires? Most probably timer, if red, yellow, brown. Trace it from the manual.
Fuse size is on the ecu!... Part no. 204 00 091 or 460 26 00 depending upon model. May be 1.25A if my memory hasn't failed.

yeah red yellow brown, so can i just leave this disconnected ? - dont have a timer in my van
The fuse thats in the ecu is a 250V / 4A one that has blown , not sure if that was the original though and any indication to size has either been rubbed off or never was there on the ecu case!
One other question - which is the positive and negative terminals on the pump? Cant see any markings and stupidly didnt marke it before removing, if i connect it the wrong way round will it just pump backwards?
I could test by connecting direct to battery with a can of petrol if its 12v?.

Leave disconnected.
Polarity is immaterial on the pump.
Fuse is marked at the bottom - last set of numbers ( part no. and fuse type).

Well it doesnt look good, wired it all up in the shed with a new fuse. Switch the thermosat switch to ventilation mode and the green light comes on but the fan doesnt spin, checked and there is 12 to 13v at the motor terminals but it doesnt spin although it is free to move if i spin it by hand.
Switch the switch to heat mode and again the green light comes on and a click is heard in the ecu and a buzzing sound from the heater but still no fan and no voltage at the pump.
Proded the fan motor a bit and tried again , this time the fan rattles to life but with very little speed. After a few seconds smoke starts to come from the fan motor as it over heats. Switched off quickly when i saw that!
Seems i need a new fan at the least, is it worth continuing or will the spares end up costing more than the heater assuming i can source them?

If it is just the motor that was available in 2009 for 106 euros +vat. ... if! (latest catalogue I could find)
Motor should spin easily - it may just need lubrication in the bearings - it might not have had any in 25 years.

Re: eberspacher b2l help needed
bearings seem to move reasonable smoothly,
in the picture above the device (2) is disconected from the connection (1) - i think this musta broke off, it was when i push the conection togther again it started spining again but heated up and smoked very quickly
is 2 a resistor?
if so what ohm age should it be
100 quid seems steep for an electric motor , do u think i could put a different 12v motor in there and get it to work?

Re: eberspacher b2l help needed
Certainly looks like a wire wound resistor or more likely an inductor, check with a multimeter may be around 0.5 - 1 ohms - can't see it being much unless the motor is a 6v or 9v one. If no resistance it will be an inductor. If it has come away at one end it can just be resoldered. If that is a broken ferrite core that I can see at the bottom that wouldn't normally be connected electrically - that is made by the wire.
100 euros is cheap - some heater motors are around £300. Highly unlikely that you will find the same motor specs on any other motor.( Found the D5 motor at £427 + vat as an example.)

Re: eberspacher b2l help needed
im wondering if its a wire wound resistor thats fused together due to heat and thus shorting out causing the overheat, the heat seams to be around those two terminals.
will have another look tonight (at work now )
I wouldn't mind the 100euros so much if i could be sure it would fix it but i can see me getting that then needing new pump, glow plug , ecu etc as well , by which point i could have bought a brand new propex heater.
Do u have any specs for the motor ? A link to the company u mentioned selling spares?
Thanks

Re: eberspacher b2l help needed
That looks like a ferrite core rather than cement so is more likely to be an inductor.
Just quote the part no. to any Eberspacher agent and they will be able to tell you about availability/price.
