T25 5 speed boxes are WEIRD

T25 5 speed boxes are WEIRD (well mine is )

Are they all like this =

1st roughly where second normally is
2nd roughly where first normally is
3rd roughly where fourth normally is
4th roughly where third normally is
5th roughly is at the bottom right

And reverse, press down and far left top, is a bit of a swine to find, though that I think might be an adjustment issue - will be looking at that today

Perhaps by weird I should have said "different".
It took me a day or so to get used to it and I still occasionally get it wrong and pull off in second, though that seems to be OK - Gill says she won't drive it, OK by me

dunno where you get 'roughly', mine's fairly spot on

Then add in LHD - it was a whole new learning experience - funny but I prefer it now more than the standard gbox on modern cars.

It's an adventure, usually when I set out to find second I smash my hand on the head unit, but I like pain....

Ah, my choice of the word "roughly" should perhaps be replaced with "approximately" or "give or take an inch"

As first is so low and the van is unladen, I suspect that pulling away in second (not wragging the clutch of course) might result in a more normal gear changing experience :) it would be like treating it as a 4 speed box with 1st as a crawler gear and 5th as if it was 4th

Welcome to the Dog leg club... Wait to you try and do any "adjustments" ...With a 5 speed you can't get to the gear lever adjustment bolts without dropping the whole lever out from under the van..

Reverse is an art in itself, the guy I bought mine from (9 years ago) used to leave it in reverse when leaving it at the garage as they could not get the hang of it.

Reverse does seem to need '..to the left then push down and forward' as 1664 says. First to reverse doesn't work for me.
Mine also works better since changed to 75W-90 GL4/5 as Aidan suggests.
First to second change with cold gearbox noticably improved.

I put in the Brickwerks adapter kit which has really tightened up the gear change travel, no more changing stations with my knuckles - highly recommended and easy to fit.
